What is a Honeymoon Registry?

It’s exactly what it sounds like. A honeymoon registry allows wedding guests to help defray the cost of a honeymoon. Since many couples have lived on their own for quite a while nowadays, they have every thing they need. With a honeymoon registry, their guests are offered the option of helping them with their honeymoon in lieu of a gift. While guests are certainly under no obligation to give from a honeymoon registry, it's a nice change from kitchen appliances and chafing dishes.

How Does it Work?

It’s really quite simple. The Happy Couple registers at one of many honeymoon registry sites. From there they can choose the items and events they would like. For instance, round trip plane fair for both might be $800 round trip. They can register for their flight to be paid for in eight increments of $100. Guest can purchase as many or as little increments as they like. Whatever is leftover at honeymoon time is paid for by the bride and groom.

Once a couple registers, the registry will provide them with a certain amount of postcards listing their gift requests. These postcards can be mailed to wedding guests.

The Gifts

Airfare isn’t the only gift in the honeymoon registry. Gift givers can also help share in the cost of travel insurance, hotel accommodations, meals at local restaurants, car rentals, tourist attractions, even digital cameras and clothing for the trip. The Happy Couple doesn’t only have to travel by plane, either. Honeymoon regestries include all aspects of travel including rental cars and cruise ships.

Gifts of theater tickets and rock concerts are also available, as are gifts of various activities such as windsurfing, jet skiing and bicycle riding. Tuxes and gowns can even be rented for a formal night out! These may not be traditional wedding gifts, but times are changing and there’s nothing wrong with keeping up with the latest trends.

Why Not?

If you’re not sure of what to get for the couple who has everything, why not help give the gift of a really wonderful honeymoon? You’re not only giving the bride and groom their dream vacation, you’re giving them some wonderful memories as well. It’s much better than giving them something that’s going to be returned or stuck up in an attic for eternity. See our Registry Guide, which has links to some popular Honeymoon Registries
