PHOTO COURTESY WACHUSETT MOUNTAIN ASSOCIATES, Brides and grooms who want to feel like they're on top of the world can book their wedding at the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, with views of the great beyond.

FITCHBURG - The question's been popped and the answer is yes. The next decision: Where to celebrate the big day?

There are a number of full-service wedding venues in the area that can accommodate most any bride's and groom's fantasy wedding.

For the couple who wants to declare their love from the top of the world, Wachusett Mountain Ski Area serves as the perfect wedding venue with breathtaking views.

"Weddings on the mountain are amazing, especially in September and October with the foliage," said Melissa Banks, Wachusett Mountain's special events manager.

Country weddings on the mountain grounds or traditional celebrations in the Granite Room, featuring a granite fireplace, are perfect for a dinner receptions for as many as 250 guests.

The bride and groom who want to escape the hustle and bustle of friends and relatives can take a romantic sky ride to the summit as husband and wife as can guests during cocktail hour.

The nearby Wachusett Village Inn on 9 Village Inn Road in Westminster has rooms and cottages for wedding guests.

The Wachusett Village Inn is also a wedding venue, offering unique extras that other places don't.

"We offer a horse-and-carriage ride with our white wedding carriage. Newlyweds love to hop in, pop some champagne and take a ride alone," said Director of Sales Laura Hume. "It's great for photos too."

Bridal parties can get full salon and spa services at the inn, and special room rates for guests are available.

Their elaborate white Tented Courtyard on 100 acres of their wooded grounds is available May through October. It costs more than the indoor conference areas, but accommodates 480 people.

The Four Points Sheraton at 99 Erdman Way of Leominster is also great for big weddings. It is an elegant venue that accommodates up to 400 guests, according to Catering Service Coordinator Erin O'Neill-Wholey.

"We have a gorgeous bar area, a really creative menu and excellent service. Every wedding is different, so we sit down with the bride numerous, numerous times to make sure they are getting exactly what they want," O'Neill-Wholey said.

The Sheraton also offers customized wedding packages, a personal wedding coordinator, and special room rates for out-of-town guests.

"We block off rooms for guests and we can host an entire weekend for them," O'Neill-Wholey said.

For 50 years, The Bull Run Restaurant of Shirley on Route 2A has been feeding newlywed couples their first meals as husband and wife in the Sawtelle Room.

"The food is definitely the best thing about having a reception here because it comes strait from the oven onto the plates. Many times food from catering services (at other venues) sits for hours before it is eaten, but we do everything right here," event coordinator Dolores Guercio said.

The venue has eight private function rooms to choose from, accommodating 200 to 350 guests.

The Bull Run Covered Bridge is a photo backdrop where many a bride and groom have been photographed and married, Guercio said.

With eight reception rooms available, the family-owned Bull Run Restaurant does not have a waiting list.

The 1761 Old Mill Restaurant on Route 2A in Westminster has been hosting wedding parties to the sounds of its flowing falls for 57 years. The function rooms accommodate up to 120 people and unlike most venues, they do not charge a room rental fee.

A banquet manager is available to help couples decide if the food should be sit down or buffet style, which hors d'oerves to choose, the flavor, shape, and size of the cake, photo settings, and other courtesies.

The Westminster Country Club on 51 Ellis Road has affordable prices and the "elegant but not to fancy" banquet hall can accommodate up to 250 people.

Everything is cooked in-house with fast service, according to Assistant Manager Carol Cormier.

"We've been doing weddings for so long that we know just what to do and offer great service. All of our staff has been here for at least five years," Cormier said.

There is a fully equipped bar, large dance floor, a variety of dinner options and plenty of free parking, Cormier said.

The 80-year-old Monoosnock Country Club on Monoosnock Avenue in Leominster has served as the wedding spot for many of their members who were married 50 years ago and other people throughout the community, Clubhouse Manager Michelle Novack said.

The giant stone fireplace serves as the focal point for winter wedding receptions and the rolling golf course greens are great for outdoor weddings and photos, according to Novack.

The reception room accommodates weddings of 50, 130 or 220 people. Novack said Moonosnock is a great venue because newlyweds can choose their favorite local caterer and have their favorite foods brought to them, instead of being restricted to the reception hall's menu.

The Leominster Elks on 134 North Main St. in Leominster is "one of the best locations to have a wedding in this area," according to General Manager Brent Schrawder.

"We are easy to get to, right off of Route 2, and we aren't near any big hotels or anything. We have a huge catering selection to choose from, a renovated banquet hall and a newly remodeled wedding party room," Schrawder said. "We also keep the gazebo painted and decorated with fresh flowers so people can take photographs there at no charge."

The wedding organization is made easy through the Elks because they have a number of established contacts available - from the Justice of the Peace to limousine services, vacations, and ball room dancing lessons.

People also love the huge maple wood dance floor and the fully stocked, solid oak bar with plenty of staff to keep people from waiting in long lines for a drink, Schrawder said.

The Elks seats up to 300 people comfortably.

The Devens Inn and Conference Center at 100 Sherman Ave. in Devens offers affordable rates for weddings from 35 people to 325 guests. Inside the Devens Conference Center is the Devens Pub, just minutes away from the Devens Inn where party guests can stay the night.
